Creighton gears up for Junior BRC

William Creighton is the latest name to join the Prestone MSA British Rally Championship with the Northern Ireland star set to compete in the Junior BRC.

Creighton will drive a Peugeot 208 R2 with Welshman Meirion Evans and fellow Irish star Marty Gallagher all set to drive the French pocket-rocket in 2017.

“The main reason I wanted to join the BRC was to better myself as a driver,” explained Creighton. “You have to go across the water and compete overseas on a wide variety of events – becoming a more rounded driver and progressing my career in the process.”

Creighton feels at home in the 208 R2 after competing in the Irish Tarmac series and believes he is at one with car heading into the new season.

“The car is brilliant and really suits my style. We had a good weekend in Galway and have DGM running the car and feel I have a good weapon at my disposal.”

The Junior BRC became a popular proving ground last year with a crop of young talent all eager to prove their worth and 2017 will be no different with the latest group lining-up to prove their worth and Creighton hopes to be in the mix, come the latter part of the season.

“The level of competition was another reason why I wanted to sign up. I am under no illusion it is going to be tough, especially on the gravel. I have limited experience on the loose, so I want to take it easy, and build the speed ahead of the tarmac rounds where I will be going hell for leather for a good result.

“For the championship as a whole I don’t have any expectations in year one as I am thinking long term. I want to do my best and finish as high up the table as possible and show pace when I can. I am really looking forward to the Isle of Man. The whole experience last year, from getting on a boat, spending a week out there was very exciting – the atmosphere was very special. I also can’t wait to experience the Welsh and Scottish forests.

The first round of the BRC gets underway on the 17/18 March with the Brick & Steel Border Counties kicking off the new season. Registrations are now open, you can register for the 2017 here.
